About

RELEVANT

REVOLUTIONARIES

A deceptively intimate evening with our 34-piece orchestra at the Thaden School. Maestro Steven Byess presents Relevant Revolutionaries, a trio of brilliant compositions from the Americas. Each piece features and challenges the virtuosity of subsets of APO's skilled players in its own way, but starting with a simple theme.

SHHH! DON'T TELL THEM CLASSICAL MUSIC BUILDS BETTER SCHOLARS.

The benefits of listening to and playing music are proven, improving concentration, fostering creativity and bolstering other brain functions. But we prefer to tell our charges in school residencies and the Arkansas Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (APYO) that listening to and learning music is fun and builds friendships.

The Soldier's Tale

THE SOLDIER'S TALE: Part concert, part theatrical performance, The Soldier's Tale is your classic devil-went-down-to-Georgia/Ukraine story. Seven of APO's finest musicians undertake one of Stravinsky's most difficult works. Meanwhile, dramatic readings from our friends at Trike Theatre set the shocking scene. Created just in time to be shut down due to the Spanish Flu in 1918, The Soldier's Tale sounds as jagged and feels as unsettling today as it did then.
