Never miss a surprise or a concert!
First piece: A complement of Arkansas Philharmonic Youth Orchestra players join us for a haunting new look at the classic hymn Amazing Grace, reconceived and arranged by Jennifer Higdon. Beautiful! This opens the concert, so arrive a bit early to park!
Next: Too often, African-American compositions and players are underrepresented in classical music. The APO’s first concert of 2023 breaks new musical boundaries with this world-premiere. Floridian flutist Brian Dunbar plays composer Carlos Simon’s Movements for Flute and Orchestra.
Finale: With text from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Joseph Schwanter’s New Morning for the World: “Daybreak of Freedom” continues the evening’s theme of Game Changers in vital contemporary music.
