Clara and Johannes at the Lake: An Original Love Story

On April 19th, the APO explored a musical love triangle in our latest theatrical collaboration. It's no secret that Johannes Brahms had feelings for Robert Schumann's wife Clara, a composer herself. All of these emotional complications affected their work.

Steven Marzolf directed this new play by award-winning playwright, Bob Ford. Elizabeth Jilka and Riles Holiday brought Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms to life to perform this heartrending story, piece by piece before selections from Brahms' four symphonies.
